Contributing to Local Societies

Our faith teaches us to be true to our religion while being focused on the communities in which we live and work. While we might originally come from India or Pakistan or Uganda or Sri Lanka, every single Bohra in the United States regards him or herself as American first and foremost.

The Bohras are a community known for our commitment to our faith, education, and service to society. We are involved with many interfaith associations across the United States, joining congregations of all religious denominations to network, share community news, and learn about each other’s faith. And our youngsters are of regular service to their community via many upliftment initiatives.

With a particular focus on hard work and education, many American Dawoodi Bohras are doctors, IT professionals, teachers, academics and successful business people.

We believe a community is only as strong as the neighbors who live there. As patriotic American citizens, we use our voices to try to make progress on countless issues including gender equality and protection of the natural environment.

Bohras are renowned for being successful business people. The word “Bohra” comes from “trade”. It is not surprising that many Dawoodi Bohras here in the United States run successful businesses, creating jobs, and generating wealth.
