The United States Dawoodi Bohra Community
The Dawoodi Bohras are Muslims hailing mainly from West India. While most Bohras live in India, we have large numbers in Pakistan, Yemen, East Africa and the Middle East, as well as growing populations in Europe, North America, South East Asia and Australia.
There are around one million Dawoodi Bohras in the world, including over 5000 families in the U.S. living in 30 communities spread across the country. We worship at masjids, or mosques, throughout the United States, and have lived and worked peacefully in this country for many years.
Despite our relatively small numbers, Bohras all over the United States play important roles in their local societies.
Dawoodi Bohras are united by a set of centuries-old principles: an unwavering commitment to our faith; a genuine love for America;
a belief in the value of society, education, hard work and equal rights for men and women; engagement with other faiths; personal physical health; and a responsibility to care for the environment and all creatures that dwell within it.
With a particular focus on hard work and education, many American Dawoodi Bohras are doctors, IT professionals, teachers, academics and successful business people. We are proud of the contribution we make to American society.
We invite you to contact us for more information on the Bohra communities of the United States. Or visit us at our masjids – or mosques – throughout America. We will welcome you and help you to make our diverse communities even safer and more respectful places to live and work.
